From 1978 to 1987, North Park College won five national titles in eight years. The Blue & Gold reigned in 62% of the NCAA Division III National Championships in that time frame and won 84% of their tournament games, sporting an eight-year record of 26-5 in the post season. North Park's five national championships still remain an all-time record in Division III Men's Basketball.

The 1978, 1979, and 1980 teams, led by Coach Dan McCarrell, compiled a remarkable 83–10 record, captured three CCIW championships, and secured three consecutive national championships—a dynasty that set the standard for excellence.

The 1985 and 1987 teams, guided by Coach Bosko Djurikovic, continued that legacy with an incredible 55–7 record, two CCIW titles, and two national championships of their own.

Together, these five national championships remain the most in Division III men’s basketball history.

Four members of those championship teams were drafted to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA): Michael Harper (1980, Rd. 3 - Portland Trailblazers), Modzel Greer (1980, Rd. 8 -Chicago Bulls), Keith French (1980, Rd. 9 - Phoenix Suns), and Michael Thomas (1981, Rd. 6 - Philadelphia 76ers).
