Rock Island, Il., / La Crosse, WI., -- As the 2026 outdoor season approaches its end, the Vikings used this week to stay sharp before the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week. A handful of North Park's athletes made the trip to Augustana College for the Midwest Twilight Qualifier, while another bunch went to the University of Wisconsin La Crosse to compete in their Qualifier.
Midwest Twilight Results:
- Women's 200m: Riana Hayes and Chloe Chesser notched a season best and personal best, respectively, in a 200m event that had over 30 competitors. Hayes ran a season best 25.69s time for a 12th place finish and Chesser ran a personal best 25.85s time for 16th place.
- Men's 800m: Leonardo Gonzalez also posted a personal best when he crossed the finish line in 1:58.21 for 11th place out of 22 runners.
- Men's Discus: Richard Covington placed 16th out of 20 throwers, yet still posted a season best 42.65m on his attempt.
La Crosse Qualifier
- Women's Pole Vault: Julia Klein shined once again as she tied for 4th place after clearing 3.71m in a 20 person field. With this, Klein has official qualified for Nationals in the pole vault.
- Men's Tripe Jump: Darrius Whiters finished 11th with a distance of 13.40m.
- Men's High Jump: Wesley McCloud cleared 1.94m on his third attempt, good for 8th place.
The NCAA Outdoor Championships are set to take place next week at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, starting on Friday, May 22nd at 11am and concluding on Sunday, May 24th.
