Ring and Ombogo reel in College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors

Ombogo becomes first Viking to earn Academic All-American honors across two different sports in the same academic year

AUSTIN, Texas -- North Park University Track & Field standouts Jereme Ombogo and Thea Ring added another All-American honor to their trophy case this summer. The duo became College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-Americans - Ombogo on the second team while Ring secured a first team nod.

Ombogo boasts one of the best resumes in Viking history as a two-sport standout in the 2024-25 academic year. This past indoor and outdoor season, he was an All-American in the 60m and 200m and claimed All-Region honors in the 55m, 60m, and 200m. He was the CCIW Indoor Male Track Athlete of the Meet after claiming champion status in the 55m and 200m and became the conference's outdoor champion in the 100m. He capped a sensational year with a pair of First Team All-American honors as a qualifier for both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor championships. 

Ombogo was also an Academic All-American as a wide receiver for North Park's Football team this past fall, earning both All-CCIW and All-Region honors as one of the top receivers in the Midwest. He's the first Viking to claim CSC Academic All-American recognition across two sports in program history.

Off the field, Ombogo is a Summa Cum Laude graduate and Chi Alpha Sigma awardee. He's a two-time CCIW Jack Swartz Award winner, three-time Academic All-CCIW, and three-time USTFCCCA Academic awardee. Ombogo accomplished all this while also serving as as North Park's two-year Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President.

Ring is one of the most decorated athletes of all-time for NPU Track & Field, shining as a multis performer. Ring earned another All-American year in both the Indoor and Outdoor seasons, securing first team accolades in the Pentathlon and second team honors in the Heptathlon. In the Pentathlon, a sensational indoor season peaked on the national stage as her 3,754 point total placed her as the runner up. She was 11th in the Heptathlon with a point total of 4,800.

Ring was All-Region in the Heptathlon, Pentathlon, 4x100m Relay, and 400m Dash, earning CCIW champion status in both the Heptathlon and Pentathlon. She swept al the CCIW Pentathlon events at the Indoor Championships, setting a personal record in the Long Jump with a 5.69m leap. Ring was the CCIW Female Indoor Athlete of the Meet and her point total in the Pentathlon set a new conference record.

On the academic side, Ring is also a two-time Jack Swartz award winner, Summa Cum Laude graduate, and Chi Alpha Sigma inductee. She earned six semesters of Dean's List recognition, is a three-time Academic All-USTFCCCA honoree, and was Academic All-CCIW three times, as well.

Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom. The all-time list of 42,000+ Academic All-Americans includes major sports stars and some of the world's most accomplished individuals in medicine, business, science and the arts. Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions.

Teams are announced year round and amplified by CSC member colleges, universities, and conferences on a wide local, regional, national, and even international scope. Nominating and voting for Academic All-America® is an exclusive right of College Sports Communicators members, most often the Athletics Communications/Sports Information personnel.

CSC began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 42,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.
