CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park sophomore catcher Reyn Matsuzaki represented Viking Baseball as a Second Team All-Region 8 honoree, according to the organization's list released on Tuesday morning. Matsuzaki was one of eight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) players to secure All-Region 8 status.
Matsuzaki, a First Team All-CCIW pick, led the Vikings in Batting Average (.350), Slugging Percentage (.573), Hits (55), RBI (42), Home Runs (9), and Total Bases (90) this season. The lefty from Honolulu, Hawaii fielded .974 with 39 assists behind the plate, including catching 17 would-be base stealers. He had 19 multi-hit games, including a pair of four-knock performances, and he led NPU with 13 multi-RBI games.
After earning starting time in his 2024 freshman season, there was no sophomore slump for the Vikings' everyday catcher from Honolulu, Hawaii. Matsuzaki tied for the CCIW lead in Home Runs (6) and he was tied for third with 24 RBI. His .547 Slugging Percentage was also in the top 10 among CCIW hitters. He hit .302 in league play with three doubles, six homers, 15 runs scored, and threw out seven would-be base stealers.
