NEW ORLEANS, La. -- North Park standout sprinter Jereme Ombogo continues to do what no Viking has done before. This time, he was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Track Midwest Athlete of the Year on Thursday afternoon. Ombogo becomes the first North Park representative to be named a Regional Athlete of the Year.
Ombogo, who hails from Houston, Texas, capped his season with a pair of PRs and First-Team All-America honors at the 2025 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships. He went 6.69 in the prelims of the 60 meters for the fifth fastest mark in NCAA DIII history and 21.34 in the prelims of the 200 meters for the 12th fastest time ever. He would later finish fourth and eighth in those respective events. Earlier in the season, Ombogo scored 20 points at the CCIW Indoor Championships with victories in both the 55 meters and 200 meters. Ombogo was recently named North Park's Male Jack Swartz award recipient for his combined academic prowess and accomplishments on the track.
Each of the ten regions – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, West – honored both genders' top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
