NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Thea Ring and Jereme Ombogo both picked up United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors in two different events, as the organization announced its selections on Wednesday afternoon. Ring was noted for her 400m and Pentathlon prowess while Ombogo's dominance stood out in the 60m and 200m.
Ring and Ombogo were both named the CCIW's Athlete of the Meets at the league's Indoor Championships this season - Ring the Female Field Athlete and Ombogo the Male Track Athlete.Â
Ombogo qualified for the 60m and 200m Dash, seemingly raising his national ranking every time he competed. He's ranked 6th in the 60m with a time of 6.75 and he's also 6th in the 200m with a time of 21.68.
Ring will compete in the Pentathlon where her score of 3,711 is currently the top mark in Division III and the only representative with a point total above 3,700. She qualified for four different events, but is focusing her energy on the Pentathlon.
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region on the year-end Descending Order Lists earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.
Nationals Nearing
North Park's participation in the NCAA Indoor Championships begins on Friday, March 14, as Ring starts with the Pentathlon 60m Hurdles at 10:20 AM ET. Later that afternoon (2:00 PM ET) Ombogo will race in the 60m Prelims while the 200m Prelims for Ombogo and Hayes have respective start times of 4:15 PM and 4:30 PM ET.
