WHEATON, Ill. & LOS ANGELES, CA. -- The Vikings track & field team turned in another big day at Saturday's Wheaton Invitational.
Senior Clark Fremouw made his presence known in the discus with a first-place finish, marking a throw of 47.01m (154' 3"). That mark places him 29th in the nation. Fremouw also had a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 14.98m (49'1.75"), good for third place.
Sophomore sprinter Jereme Ombogo made his outdoor season debut, breaking an 11-year-old school record in the 200 meters set by Willie Sawyer with a time of 21.76 seconds. He also had a second-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 48.67 seconds.
North Park women's sprint's crew showed up in a big way, running the fourth-fastest 4x100 in school history. The relay of Thea Ring, Riana Hayes, Aaliyah Parker-Fox, and Mariana Costa ran a time of 50.36. That performance energized the group as they dominated in the 200-meter dash, with four women winning their heat: freshmen Julia Klein (27.20), Riana Hayes (27.51), and Mariana Costa (27.84) and sophomore Moa Svendsen (29.31).
Another top-eight performance came from freshman Maria Bugge, who came close to tying her hammer school record of 45.81m; she finished four overall with a throw of 45.65m (150'3"). Julia Klein added a fifth-place finish in the high jump after an effort of 1.50m (4'11"). Last but not least, freshman Olav Gissinger had a fourth-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.13.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, senior Patrycja Miazek made her 10K debut at Friday's Beach Invitational at Long Beach State. She ran the third-fastest time in school history and earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 38:26.89.
Senior Esther Miller competed in the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific, totaling 3,914 points. She had a personal record in the high jump with a jump at 1.55m (5'1") and her heptathlon score ranks her 31st in the nation. Esther is the first NPU student-athlete to compete at the Bryan Clay Invite.
