CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park University track & field teams' first multi-day meet of the season concluded with a few all-time performances last Friday and Saturday. The Vikings ended the weekend with two school records ane eight top 10 all-time performances over the span of two days at Aurora's Grand Prix.
Friday was highlighted by sophomore Jereme Ombogo breaking a 21-year-old 400-meter school record that was set by Criag Hancock. Ombogo finished 3rd overall and ran a blistering time of 49.30, which is currently 34th-fastest time in Division III.
However, not to be outdone, senior Patrycja Miazek also broke a 19-year-old school record in the mile that was set by Grace Conrad. Miazek's performance helped spark the rest of the distance crew as the women's mile team all ran personal records.
Freshman Thea Ring continues to climb the top ten list almost every weekend so far this season. Her performance in the hurdles was a personal record and she improved on her 2nd all-time mark.
Sophomore Ubaydullah Kromwell is now 6th all time in the 60-meter high hurdles and sophomore Olav Gissinger adds to the dynamic of becoming a solid one-two punch in the hurdles.
One of the opening events on the track was the 60-meter dash, in which almost every single Viking short sprinter had a personal record.
"I was extremely pleased with our crew this past weekend" said head coach Bisrat Kidane. "This team went out and competed with some of the best programs in the country this past weekend and showed they can hang with the best. We still have work to do but these kind of performances will help us build towards our goals as we close in on our conference meet."
