Klein's Vault Breaks Record at ONU Invite

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The North Park track and field teams took advantage of the abundance of competition at the ONU Holiday Invite this past weekend, turning in six Top-10 All-Time Performances. 

History was made in the women's pole vault as freshman Julia Klein broke a 15-year-old school record with a jump of 10' 2.75" (3.12m). The previous school record was set by Katherine Penton back in 2007. Julia's vault helped her finish third place in the meet while grabbing a national ranking of 28.

Senior Clark Fremouw had a standout day with his biggest marks coming in the shot put and weight throw, finishing first and third, respectively, in the events. Clark's throws in the shot-put places him 4th all-time in school history and ranks him as 14th in the nation.

Sophomore Jereme Ombogo had a quality outing as he finished in 2nd place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91. His time currently has him ranked 5th in the nation.  

Freshman Olav Gissinger made his presence known as he finished in 2nd place for the pole vault with a jump of 14' 3.25" (4.35m). His jump in the pole vault places him 3rd all-time in school history and has him currently ranked 19th in the nation. 

Other top-eight finishes for the Vikings came from a group of freshmen. Thea Ring finished in 8th place in the 200 meters with a time of 26.94. Thea time has her ranked 34th in the nation as well as placed her 4th all-time in school history. Maria Bugge also finished in 8th place in the weight throw with a throw of 39' 10.75" (12.16m). Maria mark places her 8th all-time in school history. Rikard Hedin finished in 7th place in the shot put with a throw of 40' 7" (12.37m).

  • Julia Klein is now the new school record holder in the Pole Vault 
  • Olav Gissinger is now 3rd all-time in NPU history in the Pole Vault 
  • Clark Fremouw is now 4th all-time in NPU history in the Shot Put 
  • Thea Ring is now 4th all-time in NPU history in the 200 meters 
    • 5th all-time in NPU history in the 60 meters 
  • Maria Bugge is now 8th all-time in NPU history in the Weight Throw

What's Next?

Next up for the Vikings will be in 2023 as the team will travel north to Carthage College on January 14 for the Firebird First opener.
