ALLENDALE, Mich. – North Park Track & Field competed at the GVSU Big Meet this past Saturday, led by another first-place finish for Riana Hayes in the 200m.
Hayes reeled in another first-place finish to her electric senior season by beating out a batch of Division I and Division II sprinters in the 200m on the campus of Grand Valley State. Hayes crossed the line at 24.87, earning her spot as the only sprinter to run a sub-25.0 in the event. Hayes also enjoyed a third-place finish in the 60m, less than a tenth of a second behind the first-place finisher with a 7.66.
Freshman distance runner Marley Gandee finished just outside the upper third of competitors in the Mile, settling at 30thwith a time of 5:23.80. Junior jumper Kimoria Oliver broke through to the top half of finishers in the Long Jump with a bound of 4.86m to place 17th.
For the NPU men's team, freshman sprinter Albin Freiholtz was 25th of 77 sprinters in the 200m, crossing the line at 22.65. He also enjoyed a 12th-place finish in the 400m with a 49.53, ahead of 70 opponents.
Senior jumper Wesley McCloud broke into the top-10 of jumpers in the High Jump, placing seventh with a 1.87m mark. He was also sixth of 16 in the Triple Jump (13.20m). Freshman Darrius Whiters was 25th in the Long Jump at 5.85m and senior Richard Covington was in the top half of competitors in the Shot Put with a 12.86m heave.
North Park next looks to the IWU Friday Night Conference Tune-Up in Bloomington on Friday, February 20, the team's final meet before the Indoor Championships at the same venue.
