NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- After a pair of first-place finishes at the Aurora Grand Prix this past Saturday, North Park's Riana Hayes and Julia Klein swept the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Hayes, a decorated sprinter for the Vikings, was the top performer in the 60m Dash on Saturday. She placed 1st of 51 competitors, crossing the line at 7.73. She was a tenth of a second in front of the second-place finisher and she currently ranks 21st in Division III for the 60m.
Klein continues to climb in both the NPU record books and in the national spotlight in the Pole Vault, setting a program record at Aurora's meet with a 3.81m vault to handily secure the top spot in the event. She currently ranks 9th in Division III for the Pole Vault and his improved her mark in each of her past three meets this season.
The duo, alongside the rest of their Viking teammates, are back in action this Friday, January 30, when they compete at UW-Whitewater's Squig Converse.
