Vikings stand tall at Wheaton Invitational

Wheaton, Il., -- North Park Track and Field had a quick turnaround from their first official meet this past weekend as they competed in the Wheaton Invitational yesterday afternoon.  With seven top ten finishes, the Vikings look to continue their strong performances as the season continues.

In the women's pole vault, Julia Klein cleared 3.70m to tie for 1st place in a field of eight, sharing the top of the podium with St. Norbert's Alexandra Guttormson, who cleared the same height.  In the women's high jump, Alex Ireland claimed the 1st place spot after she cleared 1.32m. 

The men's throwing circles saw two Vikings finish in the top 5 in Richard Covington and Theo Smith.  Covington delivered a standout performance in the hammer throw, launching a personal best of 42.15m for 5th place out of 12 competitors.  He also cracked the top ten in the discus, placing 9th out of 22 with a distance of 35.58m.  In the shot put, Theo Smith earned a 5th place finish in a competitive 16-man field, recording a mark of 11.04m,

Chloe Chesser was the anchor for the women's sprints, putting up two top-ten performances across two events. In the 100m dash, Chesser crossed the line in 12.68s for a 7th place finish out of 25 runners. She returned to the track for the 200m dash, again securing 7th place in a larger pool of 38 with a time of 26.12s.

Josh Brito competed in a fast 400m dash, finishing 12th out of 23 with a time of 54.67s. 

In the men's 800m run, Jalen Rios finished 12th out of 30 with a time of 2:06.3.  He was followed closely by Giovanni Martinez who clocked a personal best time of 2:08.09 to take 16th. 

Jordan Brazil showcased his speed in the 200m dash, navigating a massive field of 58 athletes. Brazil crossed the line in 22.97s, marking a new personal best and finishing 19th overall.

The Vikings will have a some time to rest their legs and throwing arms until their next meet on April 9th when they compete at Elmhurst University, who is hosting the Chicagoland Championship.
