JOLIET, Ill. -- The North Park men's golf team earned a T1 finish at the St. Francis Invite on Tuesday, finishing with a program-best score of 289 (+5). The Vikings' Max Golding shot a 69 (-2) to finish as the top individualist and was just one of just two golfers to shoot under par.
Coach Ryan Frederick recaps the day:
We have 4 new faces in our starting 5 lineup and they are all incredible additions. Yesterday we shot 289 which I believe is a school record.Â
Freshman Ben Shamberg (75) – Ben did not have his best stuff but stayed tough the entire round. He was aware that it was going to be a close finish and there was a chance we would tie for the win. If we tied for First Place, he knew that it would go to the 5th score which is exactly what happened. Ben shooting 75 gave us the win over Chicago State (D1 Program). Their 5th score was 78
Junior Jake Dianovsky (74) – New to the top 5, Jake struggled with ball striking all day. However, his chipping and putting was outstanding and saved him. He is the definition of a grinder.
Freshman Alexander Vidmo (73) – Alexander made a clutch birdie on the 18th hole to keep us in it. He has a very bright future at North Park University.Â
Junior Damian Guerrero (73) – Damian is a star. He has found a whole new level of play since coming to North Park and has put together some incredible rounds. He made a 7 foot putt on the last hole to secure the win.
Sophomore Max Golding (69) – Individual winner of this event. Coming off his first hole-in-one just a few days before this event, Max led us to victory. All facets of his game were on during this tournament and he grabbed his first individual title of the year and was the biggest reason we got our first team win.Â
B Team played well also:
Sophomore Ben Fantaci – 76
Junior Anthony Dinelli – 77
Senior Sean Culver – 77
Senior Jordan Chow – 77
Freshman Ludwig Lundgren - 80
There was a lot of drama coming down the stretch and you could feel the pressure. Some teams fold under the pressure and some rise to the occasion. I am glad that we have a team that rises to the occasion. It is going to be a fun year!Â
