CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park Baseball dropped the first of a three-game series with North Central (21-17, 12-6 CCIW) on Friday afternoon. The Vikings lost the game 5-2 in their final home game of the 2025 season.
The game began with a quiet first two innings, with neither team managing to score. Viking hurler Griffin Self continued a string of strong appearances, getting several groundouts to junior second baseman Rylan Kawakami.
North Central broke the silence in the top of the third inning. NCC's Andre Medina singled to center field, followed by Justin Lang's single to shortstop, advancing Medina to second. A balk allowed Medina to score, putting North Central on the board with a 1-0 lead.
North Park responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rylan Kawakami singled up the middle, and Alex DiVito followed with a two-run home run to right field that nearly cleared the bleachers, bringing Kawakami home and giving North Park a 2-1 lead.
North Central regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Yuhki Yamada singled through the left side, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on Parker Wyatt's single up the middle. Austin Wienke then doubled to center field, driving in Wyatt and putting North Central ahead 3-2.
In the seventh inning, North Central extended their lead. Owen Ziaja, pinch-hitting, doubled to right center. Medina singled down the left field line, bringing Ziaja home. Lang's single up the middle advanced Medina to second, and Yamada's bunt single loaded the bases. Although North Central couldn't capitalize further, they led 4-2.
The final run came in the eighth inning. John Michael Scumaci singled through the left side, advanced to second on a walk, and scored on Medina's single to center field, sealing the score at 5-2.
