CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park Baseball suffered their first shutout loss of the 2025 season at the hands of the Carroll Pioneers (16-17, 7-9 CCIW). The Vikings managed just five hits in the 8-0 loss at Holmgren.
North Park struggled to get anything going against Carroll starting pitcher Erik Jaschinski, who allowed just three hits in his six-inning win where he fanned five.
Senior shortstop Reece Arakaki put some momentum on the Vikings' side when he legged out a hard-hit ball up the middle, preceding a walk for junior right fielder Joe Perona and a single through the left side by junior second baseman Rylan Kawakami to load the bases. Unfortunately, Jaschinski registered a strike out to get out of the inning.
The Pioneers scored one run each in the third through fifth innings via RBI singles and a sac fly before posting a five-run seventh. This 8-0 lead would hold all the way through, as the Vikings fell in the Tuesday afternoon contest.
Freshman left-handed reliever Tommy Eck had the best outing of his career in 2.2 innings of relief. He struck out three in his scoreless, hitless performance on the mound.
