CAROL STREAM, Ill. -- North Park Baseball dropped game one of a three-game series with the Wheaton Thunder on Friday night at Lee Pfund Stadium. The Vikings dropped the game late in the 3-1 loss.
Once more, North Park found itself in a pitching duel. Wheaton's Nate Burden enjoyed a gem, going eight innings and allowing just four hits. He struck out seven NPU hitters an did not surrender a walk in his one earned run start.
Out of the North Park dugout, fifth-year righty Griffin Self had another quality start, nearly matching Burden's outing. He went seven innings and fanned three, also allowing just four hits and one earned run.
A solo homer by Wheaton DH Rutledge Fetel in the fifth gave the Thunder their first run of the game. The Vikings responded with junior second baseman Rylan Kawakami's RBI double down the left field line in the sixth. However, Wheaton would take the final lead of the game in the eighth on a pair of RBI singles to take the game, 3-1.
