Ravitz carries no hitter into sixth inning as Vikings beat Big Blue, 2-1

A pitching duel and timely knocks lead to midweek win for NPU Baseball

CHICAGO, Ill. – North Park Baseball picked up a key midweek win in a pitcher's duel against the Millikin Big Blue (14-16, 4-7 CCIW) on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings earned a 2-1 win as senior left hander Brett Ravitz carried a no hitter into the sixth inning.

North Park took an early lead in their first trip to the plate. Junior right fielder Joe Perona got things going with a single before stealing second and third base, setting the stage for senior center fielder Alex DiVito's RBI single to right field.

On the bump, Ravitz was quite literally unhittable. The lefty ended his day throwing six innings and allowing just two hits, while fanning five. He allowed only four runners to reach base in his career outing.

Millikin did manage a run in the sixth inning with a double by Sam Bushur, driving in Hayden Stork to tie the game. However, the Vikings regained the lead in the seventh inning. Senior designated hitter Nate Sommerfeld singled to right center, followed by a sacrifice bunt from senior shortstop Reece Arakaki, advancing Sommerfeld to second. A pinch-hit single by sophomore Rylan Li and an RBI single right back up the middle by Perona brought Sommerfeld home, putting NPU ahead 2-1.

North Park's pitching staff delivered an exceptional performance. In addition to the quality start for Ravitz, juniors Zach Price and Ethan Condit provided solid relief, with Condit securing the save with a strikeout to end the game.

Historical Notes
  • Perona's career stolen base total climbs to 64, tied for eighth all-time alongside Eric Sousanes
  • Condit grabbed the seventh save of his career, which is fourth all-time alongside Alex Silverthorne
  • DiVito cracks his 168th hit, tied for 17th all-time with Jared Cantu and Mike Coduto
