CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carthage Firebirds (20-7, 8-2 CCIW) completed a sweep of North Park Baseball on Sunday afternoon, as the Firebirds' offense stayed hot in a 12-3 win over the Vikings at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
Carthage started strong with a five-run first inning, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Catcher Christian Duarte who hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and designate hitter Max Cairo added a two-run homer in the fourth. First baseman P.J. Moser also stood out with a three-run homer in the eighth inning, further extending Carthage's lead.
North Park managed to score three runs, including a deep two-run homer by sophomore catcher Reyn Matsuzaki in the fourth inning. Junior right fielder Joe Perona went 3-for-4 at the plate while freshman left fielder Vinnie Marvucic also had multiple hits with a 2-for-3 showing.
Senior right hander Griffin Self showcased four innings of quality relief against a strong Carthage offense, punching out three hitters while allowing just a pair of hits. Carthage's Brendan Roberts got the win, navigating seven innings.

North Park (8-16, 4-4 CCIW) stays at home next Wednesday, April 16, for a single game against Millikin University (14-15, 4-6 CCIW). First pitch at Holmgren is set for 4:00 PM CT.
