SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- The North Park Vikings took on the Dominican Stars on Sunday afternoon and saw their six-game win streak snapped with a 7-2 loss.
Sophomore outfielder Joe Perona started the Vikings' day off with a single to left field but was caught stealing at second base just before back-to-back singles from senior second baseman Justin Swanson and junior outfielder Nate Sommerfeld.Â
Sophomore right hander and NPU starting pitcher Kevin Ayeski took the mound for the Vikings, starting his day off with by forcing an out to right field.  An error, a hit by pitch, and a three-run homer gave Dominican a 3-0 lead through the first inning.Â
Sophomore Brandon Leidolph came in to relieve Ayeski in the 4th inning, picking up a strikeout and a clean frame.Â
North Park got their first run across in the top of the 6th after Sommerfeld and junior shortstop Reece Arakaki knocked back-to-back singles to right field. Senior first baseman Garrett Bragg knocked in Sommerfeld with a single through the right side as NPU still trailed, 3-1.Â
The Stars added an additional four runs in the bottom of the 6th off five hits and a hit by pitch. Sophomore Jackson Nuese came in to pick up the last out of the 6th.Â
North Park answered back in the top of the 8th, starting with walks from Sommerfeld, Arakaki, and pinch hitter Carlos Martinez to load the bases. A Bragg fielder's choice and a single by junior catcher Gio Lucchetto marked two runs, moving the game 7-3 in favor of the Stars.Â
Nuese worked through the 8th inning without surrendering a run, but the Vikings were unable to mount a comeback, losing the contest 7-3.Â


North Park (11-7) opens CCIW play on the road next Friday, March 29, in Carol Stream, Illinois against Wheaton College. First pitch at Lee Pfund Stadium is set for 1:00 PM.
