DAVENPORT, Fla. – North Park baseball snapped the Beloit College Buccaneers' five-game win streak on getaway Saturday with a 12-6 win to conclude their time at the RussMatt Invitational in Central Florida. Sophomore right fielder Joe Perona tied NPU's single-game steals record in the win, swiping four bags, as the Vikings banged out 19 hits.
Senior left hander Bobby Bartlett blanked the Bucs in the first inning, striking out a pair to bring NPU up to bat.
North Park went to work in their first trip to the plate, scoring four runs on six hits. Perona led the inning off with a single to center before stealing second. After a flyout, Perona would steal third before a grounder too hot to handle off the bat of senior second baseman Justin Swanson scored Perona. A double off the right field wall by junior designated hitter Nate Sommerfeld put runners in scoring position before Swanson scored on a wild pitch. Sophomore third baseman Carlos Martinez, junior catcher Gio Lucchetto, senior first baseman Garrett Bragg, and freshman right fielder Rylan Li all singled, to carousel among the bases and take a 4-0 lead.
The Bucs got three back in the top of the second on as many hits, highlighted by a three-run double by J. Alport.
However, North Park would mark a run or more in every inning except a scoreless fifth to put the game out of reach.
