CHICAGO, Ill. -- No. 17 UW-Platteville utilized 10 blocks to take a win away from North Park Women's Volleyball, 3-1, on Saturday night. Senior outside hitter Adriana Rodriguez tied Christina Gatta with her 84th career double-double, just one more away from holding the all-time record at North Park.
It was a disastrous start for the Vikings in the opening set as the Pioneers played errorless volleyball with 11 kills and a .688 hitting percentage while the Vikings, who were underwater most of the set, hit flat at .000 with 10 kills and as many errors.
However, after dropping the opening set 25-14, North Park responded well in the next 25 points. Thanks to spread out attacking by junior outside hitter Annaliese Rottman, senior rightside hitter Kharlie Simeona-French, and senior outside hitter Adriana Rodriguez, North Park evened the match at one win apiece with a 25-19 triumph.
However, the Pioneers rode their defense in the next two sets, holding the Vikings at or a below a .000 hitting percentage to win in four sets.
Rodriguez led all players with 16 kills and boasted another double-double with 11 digs. Simeona-French and junior libero Carolina Aviles finished with a pair of aces while Rodriguez had three. Platteville's Kennedy Wenger and Kierney McDonald had six and five blocks, respectively, while the Pioneers' top hitter was McDonald who finished with 12 kills.
