Miller Repeats as CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week

Miller becomes the first Viking in program history to earn more than one Defensive Player of the Week honor

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Junior linebacker Jaydin Miller continues to wreak havoc against opposing offenses this season, securing his second College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday thanks to another standout performance against Carthage.

Miller, a Second Team All-CCIW pick last season, boasts his third weekly honor of the season after being named the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week and a D3football.com National Team of the Week recipient during week 4.

Against the Carthage Firebirds this past Saturday, Miller did it all. The junior captain led all defensive players with 12 tackles (11 solo) including two for a loss of 13 total yards. He added a sack for a loss of 12 yards, recovered a fumble, was credited with a quarterback hurry and pass breakup, and had a fourth quarter pick-six to seal the Vikings' third win of the season.

In total, Miller accounted for 49 lost yards against the Carthage offense. In CCIW action, he leads the league with five sacks and two interceptions and he is second with 25 solo tackles and six solo tackles for loss.

The last time North Park football earned two CCIW Defensive Player of the Week awards in the same season was 2015 when Nick French and Chaun Maiava were named the weekly awardees on Nov. 16 and Sept. 8, respectively. Miller becomes the first Viking to earn the defensive award twice in a season and now chases the record of four weekly honors by Darnell Rios, who was the Offensive Player of the Week four times during the 2000 season.
