CHICAGO, Ill. -- Esports Program Director Pete Casella is excited to unveil the inaugural 2023 Esports roster, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Having recently joined the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), the Esports team will be competing in the Spring 2023 semester with their first official team: a VALORANT team.
"VALORANT" is one of the most,popular competitive games throughout the collegiate Esports scene. Created by legendary game studio Riot Games, VALORANT was released in mid-2020 during the heart of the pandemic and immediately vaulted to the top of the top of the Esports scene with its unique, fast, team-oriented gameplay.
North Park will be led into the season by (in alphabetical order): Elian Meraz (freshman), David Neitzke-Pizarro (sophomore), Roswell Omandam (sophomore), Hieu Tran (Freshman), Melissa Vinluan (sophomore), and Tony Zhen (senior). Jinwon Song and Zach Hayden, both freshmen, will be joining the Fall 2023 roster but will be eligible to serve as emergency substitutes for this season.
VALORANT competitive matches will be played on Monday evenings, with a two-week preseason and nine-week season, starting January 23rd. Schedule, matchups, and broadcast information will be publicized upon release.
