CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park women's tennis team won two big non-conference matches on their home courts during Saturday's tri-match.
The first win of the day came against the Knights of Wartburg College. The Vikings started off the morning with two out of three doubles victories. The #1 doubles team of newcomer Teodora Kralijevic and Carla Cezas used their powerful service game to overcome some strong opponents from Wartburg winning 8-5. #2 doubles team consisting of Hanna Zethreus and Marie Fuerer had the most dominant win of the day, taking down their opponents quickly at 8-2. The two players showed great chemistry in their combined service and net games.
Singles proved just as successful for the Vikings when they earned wins in 5 out of 6 competitions including Kralijevic's victory at #1 singles. Zethreus, Cezas, Fuerer, and Starr all contributed singles points to the 7-2 team win.
Taking that energy from the morning win into the afternoon, the Vikings made quick work of Concordia's doubles teams, winning handily in all three spots. Zethreus/Fuerer won at #1, Starr/DeLuca won at #2, and senior Emma Trais and sophomore Anna Miller won at #3.
The Vikings continued the positive momentum into the singles matchups with clear wins in most of the positions. The #2 - #5 singles had the most dominant wins of the entire day, out scoring their opponents for a combined 48-4 game score. Ella Darrow also earned her first official college win at #6 singles, polishing off her opponent 6-1, 6-3.
The final match of the day was the #1 singles competition for Carla Cezas. Cazes was set back after losing the first set, but came roaring back in the 2nd to force a third set super-breaker. The tiebreaker lasted to a nail-biting 12-10 finish, but Concordia walked away the victor.
All in all, a solid day of competition and pair of wins for the Vikings.
