Viking Golf Shoots 297 on Day 2 to Grab Fourth Place at Augie

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The North Park men's golf team broke 300 on the second day of the Viking Invitational at Highland Springs Country Club this past weekend, capturing fourth of 25 competing teams.

The Vikings dealt with snow for half of the round on Friday but dealt with the adverse weather efficiently by shooting 302. They backed that performance with a score of 297 on day two.

Jack Haberkorn had a stellar performance shooting under par for the tournament and finishing T4. 72-71.

Alex Thompson continues to be solid for Viking golf, posting a 75-75 while senior Jake Jacott had his best two-day collegiate total, 76-75.

"We have a strong team, and our region has taken notice," said first-year head coach Ryan Frederick. "We started the season ranked 160th. Before this tournament we had worked our way down to 112th and will jump more in rankings after this event. We beat many teams ranked well ahead of us this week and I'm pleased with the performance."

The 599 two-day score is one of the best in the Vikings have had as a program, finishing two behind third-place Illinois Wesleyan (597) and seven behind runner up UW-Eau Claire (592).

Next on the schedule is the CCIW Preview this coming Wednesday, April 13. The Vikings will tee off at Dretzka Park Golf Course in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
