CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park University Athletics and the Sports Information Department is excited to present a new, official home to many Viking broadcasts. The in-house broadcast previously known as "NPU Live" will now go by a new name - "The Viking Sports Network" (VSN).
"Since starting as Director of Athletics, John [Born] has made consistent efforts to establish a meaningful brand for the North Park athletics department and its teams, including giving us the means and equipment necessary for multi-camera broadcast production," said fifth-year sports information director, Tyler Woolbright. "We want to match that commitment by giving our fans, teams, and student-athletes an official, professional home for many of our in-house broadcasts."
Fans that have been following North Park football and the men's and women's soccer teams may have seen some of these broadcasts in action already. For those that have not, they should be excited to hear and see the following:
- Multi-camera production for a more immersive feel
- Three cameras operated by student workers at NPU
- Play-by-play commentary from Gregory Sager and Scot Gladstone
- Some games featuring special guests!
- Post-game interviews with players and coaches
- Field level, in-game audio
- Picture-in-picture of the scoreboard, for sports that utilize a game clock
While there will still be broadcasts that have the standard, one-camera production, due to staffing and overlap of a few home events, most of this year's broadcasts will go through VSN.
About the Logo:
The Viking royal blue and stars shown in the NPU Athletics logo is front-and-center. What might not be so obvious is an ode to the North Branch of the Chicago River, which runs through the campus of North Park University. Those with a keen eye will notice that the Chicago River is overlaid in the "S" of the VSN logo, while the "N" represents Lake Michigan.
When We're Live Again:
The first VSN broadcast of the year for women's volleyball will be this coming Wednesday, September 15, at 7 p.m. Make sure to tune in by visiting athletics.northpark.edu
