Over many years, Sager has taken on an expanding role as “the Voice of the Vikings,” as he has served as the lead play-by-play commentator for "The Viking Sports Network" for a wide variety of Viking athletic events. His coverage of North Park Athletics led to his induction into the Vikings Hall of Fame in December 2024.
He started as the play-by-play announcer for men’s basketball, followed by football, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, and women's volleyball. With the recent addition of men’s volleyball, he provides play-by-play and commentary for nine Viking sports that take place on campus throughout the entire academic year.
Sager has been on the call for many CCIW playoff events, as well as numerous NCAA regional matches. Sager broadcasted the 2019 NCAA men's soccer championships, calling the first, second, and third round matchups for North Park University men's soccer, Pacific Lutheran University, Gustavus Adolphus College, Calvin University, Luther College, and Colorado College.
With the addition of a new broadcast system, coupled with color commentary capabilities, a number of broadcasts have reached more than 10,000 unique viewers for a single event.
Sager was raised in upstate New York, but has lived in Chicago since attending North Park University. A long-time member of Ravenswood Evangelical Covenant Church, he has served the church in several capacities over the years, including two terms as church chair. His interests include writing, reading, Scriptural interpretation, theology, biking, fantasy baseball and exploring Chicago.
