GREENVILLE, Ill. – The North Park University men's basketball team fell on a last-second shot to the Greenville University Panthers on Saturday night, dropping the contest 119-117.

The Vikings utilized large batches of fast-break layups to counter the barrage of three pointers from the Panthers. In total, 78 of the Vikings' 117 points came via the fast break and 100 points were scored in the paint.

North Park trailed, 63-55, at halftime, but chipped away in the first few minutes of the second half.

Before the Vikings mounted a comeback, the Panthers tallied a pair of layups in the first minute of the second half to hold a double-digit lead.

However, seven points from Jordan Boyd, including a dunk, put the Vikings within six points. Next, Izaiah Sanders capitalized on a pair of fast-break layups while Michael Osborne added a layup of his own to tie the game up at 68-68. The Vikings took the lead on points from Osborne, Gabe Johnson, and Adam Bulwa but, after trading the lead back and forth through much of the second half, lost on a buzzer-beating three pointer off the hand of Greenville's Lampley.

Near Triple Double, Assist Machine

Osborne nearly turned in just the third triple double in North Park men's basketball history. He totaled 23 points, 14 assists, and nine rebounds in the heart breaker. His 14 assists today is the highest total for a Viking since Danny James totaled 18 against Rust College in the 1989-90 season.

Quick Hits:

  • Osborne, Jordan Boyd with 23 points each
  • Jalen Boyd with a double double – 17 points 11 boards
  • Sanders one assist away from a double double – nine assists 15 points
  • 14 points each for Bulwa and Jonathan Johansson
