The North Park volleyball team finished its annual NPU Viking Clash with a 2-2 record Friday and Saturday.
Being contested for the first time in two different venues – both the North Park Gym and the Helwig Recreation Center – the NPU Clash culminated with Nebraska Wesleyan (4-0) claiming the overall team title and Kennedy Hegert earning tournament MVP honors from NWU. Freshman Lauren Wiltsie earned All-Tournament honors for North Park as she averaged nearly four kills per set (3.47) and finished the two-day tourney with 59 total. The hard-hitting first-year player recorded a .308 hitting percentage with 10 kills in the Vikings' 3-0 win over Alverno College in the tournament opener.
Despite falling to both Albion College and Nebraska Wesleyan, the Vikings went to five sets with each squad, much to the delight of the NPU faithful.
Other top performers for North Park included Emily Farwell, who finished with 40 kills, averaging 2.35 kills per set; Jocelyn Roesel with 22 kills and Kelly Clinton with 20. Freshman Maddy Barry also dished 77 total assists.
Defensively, Wiltsie led the attack with 69 digs, averaging 4.06 per set and recorded the highest amount of digs (11) in a three-game set. Karen Rosales, who added 93 total digs, tallied 36 against Albion College and sophomore Darby Switzer served up three aces against Nebraska Wesleyan.
North Park (5-6) returns to action tomorrow night when it travels to Maranatha Baptist for a 7 p.m. match.
