North Park's second half rally was halted just short Saturday night as the Vikings fell 72-68 to visiting Illinois Wesleyan University on Senior Night.
After rough offensive first half where the NP connected on only 14 shots, the Vikings fought back with a strong final 20 minutes by converting on nearly 60 percent of their attempts (15 of 26). Twice in the final 1:51 North Park trimmed the deficit to one – once after a lay-up from Soly Roman and again on 1 of 2 free throws from the junior – but four-straight IWU free throws closed out the victory for the visitors.
Five different Vikings finished in double-figure scoring led by 18 points from Roman. Sophomore Nikki Przybyslawski added 13 points and Rachel Torres 12. Both Amani Davis and Shaylee Sloan tallied 10, and Torres also dished a career-high nine assists.
Illinois Wesleyan started strong and never looked back in earning its 10th win of the season. The Titans raced out to an 11-5 lead and later held a 36-32 edge at halftime, leading wire-to-wire. Kasey Reaber led IWU with a game-high 22 points.
Prior to the contest, the North Park women's basketball family recognized senior and four-year letter winner Annie Shain for the hard work and dedication she's given to the program over the last four years.
North Park (13-11, 5-8) closes out the 2014-15 season Saturday when it travels to North Central College for a 5 p.m. contest.
