North Park had its two-game winning streak against Millikin snapped with a 20-17 loss in Decatur Saturday.
A 31-yard field goal from Big Blue kicker Chayce Volpert early in the fourth quarter ended up deciding the final verdict as the Vikings moved their overall record to 2-5 and 1-3 in the CCIW.
Despite the loss, NP garnered over 300 yards of offense with junior quarterback T.D. Conway completing 25 of his 48 passes for 236 yards with a touchdown. Conway's 11-yard pass to sophomore Devin Childress – which ended a 10-play, 70-yard drive – gave the Vikings a 14-3 lead with 13:49 left in the second quarter after sophomore running back Filo Langkilde powered his way in for a three-yard TD run to open the scoring at the 11:19 mark of the first.
After a MU touchdown, a 29-yard field goal from senior Noah Moore with 6:23 left in the second pushed the Vikings lead to 17-10, but another Millikin scoring drive – a 65-yard march – led to a 17-all tie with just under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Defensively, both sophomore Nick French and senior Brendon Dull had nine tackles each with French garnering six solo tackles. Senior Hunter Corrigan also had two tackles for a loss of 15 yards and both French and Robbie Hillier II had an interception.
Childress finished the day with eight catches for 106 yards while senior Anthony Burton had five catches for 58 yards. Langkilde added nine carries for 43 yards.
North Park looks to rebound next Saturday when it hosts Augustana College for a 1 p.m. contest.
