Vikings lose 89-72 to host Ill. Wesleyan

Roman scores career-high 23 points

Junior forward Soly Roman scored a career-high and game-high 23 points, but it wasn't enough Saturday as the Vikings fell 89-72 to host Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.

Roman, who is averaging 20 points in her last two games, was a perfect 9 of 9 from the field and nearly spotless from the free throw line as she converted on 5 of 6 attempts.

North Park seized control early as it staked a 10-point lead after a pair of free throws from sophomore Nikki Przybyslawski at the 6:44 mark of the first half, but Illinois Wesleyan used a 21-9 scoring run over the final six minutes to take a 45-43 lead at halftime.

A second-half IWU surge, a 12-9 clip, put the hosts ahead 57-52 after a three-pointer from Samantha Ellsworth and the Titans never looked back. Illinois Wesleyan built its lead to as much as 19 points with just under two minutes remaining as it earned its first CCIW victory of the season.

The Titans used a strong inside game, scoring 40 points in the paint, and had 19 offensive rebounds which led to 28 second chance points, 18 in the second half. Four different players finished in double-figure scoring led by Kasey Reaber with 23 points. Sophomore Liz Rehberger added 17 points for the Vikings and senior Annie Shain finished with nine.

North Park (9-7, 1-4) returns to action this Wednesday night when it travels to Elmhurst College for a 7 p.m. contest with the Bluejays.
