Vikings upend MBI 3-0

NP extends win streak to season-high six matches

North Park made quick work of the visiting Moody Bible Institute Thursday, disposing of the Archers 3-0 behind a 14-kill performance from junior Monalisa Fasavalu.

With the victory, North Park extended its win streak to a season-high six matches, the longest such streak for any Vikings' team in the last seven seasons.

Junior Hayley Brake added 13 kills, and three different Vikings finished in double-digit digs led by 15 from Alexis Clay. Sa'Vone Williams added 12, and Fasavalu 10 marking the eighth double-double for Fasavalu this season and the fifth-straight for the right side hitter.

North Park set the tone early in the first set by staking a 4-1 lead after a kill by Brake. To their credit however, the Archers fought back to close the deficit to 5-4, and later tie the set at 7-all after a North Park hitting error. The Vikings attack proved to be too much though as they responded with a 7-3 scoring run to move ahead 14-10. NP then ended the set with an 11-4 run, highlighted by back-to-back service aces from Williams and a kill from Karina Partee.

In the second set, North Park utilized excellent passing and ball movement to break away for a 15-3 lead. The Vikings took advantage of a few MBI hitting errors then finished off the set on a kill from Fasavalu and a service ace from reigning CCIW Defensive Player of the Week Darby Switzer, who finished with two in the match.

Moody Bible stayed with North Park through the first 20 points of the third set, matching the hosts point-for-point for a 10-10 tie after two NP hitting errors, but the Vikings broke away again, this time using a 10-4 clip to pull ahead 20-14. They scored five of the set's last eight points to earn the victory.

Switzer dished 26 assists to pace the Viking offense and added seven digs as well. Shelby Durham led Moody Bible with five kills.

North Park (8-11) returns to action Tuesday when it opens CCIW play hosting Millikin University at 7 p.m.
