Box Score
Coming off the heels of a sensational freshman debut where he threw for over 300 yards,
T. D. Conway had yet another performance Saturday night worthy of some national recognition.
Conway connected on 25 of 45 passes for 228 yards at Benedictine, but four costly interceptions opened the door for the host Eagles to roll to a 36-10 victory, their first of the season in the non-conference tilt.
The final score wasn't nearly indicative of how the contest played out however. Up until late in the third quarter, the Vikings were looking at possibly their first victory of the season under new head coach Mike Conway. Benedictine grabbed a 17-0 lead on a pair of touchdowns and a field goal heading into halftime, but T.D. and NPU made their second half comeback so quickly it nearly sent Benedictine to its second-straight loss.
T.D. engineered the Vikings first scoring possession on a 10-play, 82-yard drive right out of the gate in the second half. T.D. made the first scoring connection to his older brother
Dakota Conway when he found him for a nine-yard pass in the back of the end zone. North Park's defense then held serve on BU's ensuing possession and the Vikings closed the gap to 17-10 when a 36-yard drive ended in a 26-yard field goal from
Noah Moore with 8:04 left in the contest.
After Benedictine used a 61-yard drive to up its lead to 24-10, the Vikings immediately went back to work but their offense fell stagnant for most of the fourth quarter as they weren't able to find much of an answer for the Eagles defense. NP had an opportunity when it started one of its final drives of the night with a little under two minutes remaining, but Benedictine put the game out of reach when T.D.'s pass on second and three was intercepted and returned 53 yards for a touchdown.
In all, the Vikings garnered 380 yards of total offense, including 152 yards rushing, and had 19 first downs. Junior running back
Drew Walkington led the ground game for the Vikings with seven carries for 66 yards.
North Park (0-2) heads into a bye week next week before returning home to face Olivet College Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
