Vikings play to a 0-0 2OT tie v. CUW

Box Score

Looking to rebound from Saturday's loss to Loras College in the Raider Invite men's soccer championship match at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, North Park took on a feisty Concordia University Wisconsin team on a muggy Tuesday night before a crowd of nearly 1,000 fans at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.

After 110 minutes of play, a combined 38 shots, 20 on goal, neither team found an advantage as they played to 0-0 double overtime tie in the non-conference affair.

Concordia, which had won its last two games coming in to the contest, matched the speedy Vikings play for play despite being out-shot. North Park on the other hand, did the same and didn't let the visiting Falcons create any real opportunities for a goal against the nationally-ranked hosts.

North Park's closest opportunity at a goal came in the 79th minute of regulation when junior Jonas Pettersson, who finished four shots, fired a ball into the box off the right side that tipped off the top of the cross bar and hit the left post only to fall harmlessly back into the possession of the Falcon defense.

In a messy first half that saw a combined 27 fouls, North Park, which owned a 4-0 record against the Falcons dating back to the 2009 season, out-shot CUW 8-5 with four of those shots on goal. But Concordia keeper Eric Vogel was solid throughout as he played all 110 minutes and made 11 saves. North Park keeper Wesley Woodley was equally as impressive as he shut down the Falcon offense with nine saves.

North Park (2-1-1) returns to action Friday when it travels to Michigan to take Alma College for a 3 p.m. (CST) contest.
