Football loses to Benedictine 30-22

Box Score

North Park played well enough to win in its non-conference football tilt with Benedictine University Saturday night, but a few costly mistakes led the Vikings to a 30-22 loss to the visiting Eagles.

North Park fumbled the ball an uncharacteristically six times and lost four of those fumbles which led to a pair of scores for Benedictine. Both teams were tied at 7-7 at halftime, and later at 14-14, but Benedictine took advantage of the Vikings' mistakes to score 16 unanswered points to pull out to a 30-14 lead with a little over six minutes left in the contest. North Park immediately answered with a quick 11-yard drive, after Nick Weinstein took the ensuing kickoff back 82 yards, to close within eight points on a Chris Broadway touchdown run, but another costly fumble late in the fourth quarter sealed the victory for Benedictine.

Broadway led North Park with three carries for 36 yards, while senior Matt Hassan had eight carries for 20 yards and a touchdown. Junior quarterback Tyler Krebs completed 5 of his 14 passes for 56 yards and Hassan had two catches for 41 yards.

North Park (0-2) returns to action in two weeks when it travels to Olivet College of Michigan for a 1 p.m. start September 22.
