Box Score
North Park nearly matched Augustana in every statistical category, and even had more yards passing Saturday at the Holmgren Athletic Complex, but the Vikings came out on the short end of a 35-14 decision to the visitors in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin football action.
Augustana staked a 14-0 lead at halftime, but North Park came back with a quick 92-yard drive to open the third quarter and close the deficit to 14-7 after senior
Matt Hassan culminated the drive with a 10-yard run. But Augie halted the rally by putting together a pair of scoring drives to push its lead back up to 28-7 over the next six minutes of the period. North Park came back with a 79-yard drive to close the gap again after senior quarterback
Jon Williams found
Zachary Bates for a 7-yard score early in the fourth quarter, but Augustana's offense, particularly running back Eric Chandler (17 carries, 204 yards), again proved to be too much for the hosts as AC added its final TD, a quick 4-play, 24-yard drive with a little more than 6 minutes left in the contest.
Williams finished the day completing 6 of his 15 passes for 77 yards, while junior quarterback
Tyler Krebs returned to the Viking lineup and completed a pass for 11 yards. Hassan also had 15 carries for 98 yards with a TD. In all, the Vikings accumulated 319 yards of total offense to Augustana's 346, and the Vikings had 88 yards passing to Augie's 86. NP also won the time of possession battle (35:59-24:01) and the Vikings had one less first down than Augustana (18-17).
North Park (1-6, 0-4) looks to rebound next Saturday when it travels to Elmhurst College for a 1 p.m. contest with the Bluejays.
