After a tough 31-6 football loss at Carthage College last Saturday, September 29, North Park is looking to bounce back when it hosts College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opponent Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
This will be the 53rd meeting between North Park and Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings lost last season's matchup in Week 5 despite nearly 200 yards rushing, including 83 yards from then junior
Tyler Krebs on 19 carries.
What to watch for:
North Park
Krebs continues to lead North Park and ranks top-10 in the CCIW in all-purpose yards, averaging a little under 185 yards per game (183.5). He earned CCIW Offensive Player of the week honors Monday, Sept. 24 for his performance in a 46-21 win over Olivet College of Michigan in Week 3 where he threw for 167 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for two touchdowns. Matt Hassan also needs only 521 rushing yards the rest of the season to become North Park's all-time leading rusher. He finished with 77 yards on 16 carries last week against Carthage. What's more is freshman
John Gieseking received a CCIW Special Teams Player of the Week nomination for his stellar performance against Carthage where he had five punts for 172 yards, averaging 34.4 yards per punt and landing two punts inside the 20-yard line.
Illinois Wesleyan
The Titans are looking to keep their momentum going after earning a 34-33 overtime win over Millikin last weekend in Bloomington. Titans' quarterback Rob Galik completed 22 of his 31 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns. Sean Conley scored the decisive TD on a four-yard run, which ended a seven-play drive, in the extra period. Millikin countered with a touchdown as well, but its attempt at a two-point conversion failed. T.J. Stinde led the Titans' ground game as he rushed for 185 yards on 30 carries with a touchdown. The Titans also garnered 442 yards of total offense.
