Men's Soccer Defeats CUC 5-1

CHICAGO, IL (September 7, 2011) – The North Park men's soccer team earned its third straight win to start the season, a 5-1 victory over visiting Concordia University Chicago Wednesday night.

North Park, which debuted at No. 20 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NCSAA) Top 25 poll prior to the contest, out-shot Concordia 30-6, including 13-2 on goal and 16-3 in the first half.

Freshman Jonas Pettersson continued to add to his team-leading goals scored as he tallied a pair of goals less than 15 minutes apart. His first came in the 26th minute off an assist from freshman Sigurd Pryser, and the other came off a pass from freshman Isaac Blixt in the 37th minute.

Sophomore Robin Hals put away North Park's first goal not even three minutes into the contest when he took a Petterson assist and fired a shot which rebounded off the keeper into the goal. After Petterson's back-to-back goals, Concordia tallied a shot in the just before halftime, but North Park put away two more goals in the second half. Blixt tallied a shot off an assist from senior Kris Grahn in the 46th minute, and Grahn recorded a shot on a pass from senior Ryan McNaughton in the 55th minute.

Sixteen different Vikings received playing time and combined for eight of North Park's 30 shots. Sophomore Effy Restrepo recorded a season-high two shots on goal.

North Park (3-0) returns to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when it hosts UW-Oshkosh, a squad it fell to 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA National tournament last season.
