CHICAGO, IL (October 14, 2011) – The North Park men's soccer team earned a 3-1 win before a raucous crowd over Augustana College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Friday night.
The victory was NP's fourth straight and its second over Augie in the last three meetings. North Park out-shot Augustana 14-12, including 5-4 on goal.
NP took control of the game in the 13th minute when freshman sensation Jonas Pettersson took an assist from senior Kris Grahn and lofted the ball over the goalkeeper's hands in the bottom right corner of the net. The Vikings then struck again in the 20th minute when Pettersson took yet another Grahn assist and nearly created a mirror image of the first goal as he again bounced the ball in the left side of the net past the goalie.
Augustana wouldn't be denied though as it brought the game within a goal 15 minutes before halftime when AC leading goal scorer Sean Fidlow found the back of the net off an assist from John McSpadden. But North Park would finish off the scoring early in the second half when freshman Fredrik Greiff scored his first collegiate goal in the 53rd minute on an assist from sophomore Robin Hals.
North Park junior keeper Tim Ahlberg played all 90 minutes and made three saves in earning his eighth win of the season.
North Park (9-0-3, 3-0-1) returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 22 when it travels to Decatur to take on CCIW opponent Millikin University in a 2:30 p.m. matinee.
