EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Second-year head men's basketball coach Edwind McGhee was named a Silver Waves Media Rising Star, as the organization announced its prestigious list on Wednesday morning.
Under McGhee's leadership, the Vikings have continued to elevate the program's offensive production and competitiveness within the CCIW. During the 2025-26 season, North Park set a program record for most three-pointers made in a season (246) and most assists in a game (39), while also scoring a program-record 138 points in a single contest. The Vikings also connected on a school-record 17 three-pointers in a conference game. The team averaged 85.7 points per game, the program's highest scoring average since the 1987–88 season.
McGhee's second season also featured several individual milestones. Kolden Vanlandingham earned Preseason All-American recognition and recorded the fourth triple-double in North Park program history. The Vikings also saw three players record 30-point games in the same season for the first time since 1978-79. Following the season, Mike Vuckovic earned First Team All-CCIW honors while Vanlandingham was named Second Team All-CCIW, giving McGhee four All-CCIW selections across his first two seasons as head coach.
The Vikings' recent success has also been historic in terms of program consistency. Under McGhee, North Park secured its first back-to-back winning seasons since 2016-17, qualified for the CCIW Tournament in consecutive years for the first time in program history, and recorded its first consecutive top four conference finishes since the 1992–93 and 1993–94 seasons.
The organization will host the honorees at the Rising Stars Power Lunch in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 2.
