CLERMONT, Fla. -- North Park softball swept its Thursday doubleheader in Florida, defeating Hood 11-3 and Utica 20-8. The Vikings collected 33 hits across the two games and improved to 7-3 on the season.
North Park opened the day with an early burst against Hood, scoring three runs in the first inning. Senior center fielder Kayla Sapolu reached with a leadoff single and stole second, setting up an RBI single by senior shortstop Kayla Lorenz. A six-run fourth inning put the game out of reach, highlighted by RBI hits from senior DP Salyssa Garcia, senior catcher Katie Patton, and Lorenz. North Park finished with 13 hits while pitchers Eden Baker and Katelyn Meyer combined to allow just one earned run.
The second game produced one of the biggest offensive outputs in program history. North Park's 20-run performance was its first 20-run game since a 24-0 win over Mount Mary on April 14, 2011. It also marked the most runs the Vikings have ever scored on a Florida spring trip, surpassing the previous high of 18 in a 2000 win over Nichols.
Kayla Lorenz drove in five runs—tying for seventh all-time in the program's single-game RBI records. It was her second career five-RBI game, with the other coming at Benedictine on March 29, 2023.
Sapolu added two more hits and three runs, Baker had three hits, and senior right fielder Sydney Snyder collected four RBIs including her first home run of 2026. Senior first baseman Kathryn Keehn and freshman third baseman Chloe Bader each recorded three hits, and junior Bella Frohwirth scored three times off the bench. North Park sealed the win with an 11-run fifth inning, punctuated by Snyder's homer and triples by Patton and Lorenz. Lorenz is now one triple away from tying the NPU all-time record at 15.
