CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 conference victory over Carroll University on Sunday at River Park, improving to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play. The Vikings now sit in third place in the CCIW standings.
The Vikings secured the doubles point by earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Katharina Schuler and Isabelle Richter battled to a 7-6 victory at No. 2, while Nova Mickelsson and Jessica Dudas added a 7-5 win at No. 3.
North Park carried that momentum into singles play, claiming four of six matches. Alexandra Pugachova earned a 6-3, 7-6 victory at No. 1 singles, and Schuler outlasted Carroll's Trifilio in a three-set battle, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, at No. 2. Tyra Olsson turned in one of the Vikings' most dominant performances of the day, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Nova Mickelsson was named "Viking of the Match" after contributing victories in both doubles and singles. After helping secure the doubles point, Mickelsson rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Souki at No. 5 singles, earning her second CCIW singles win of the season.
