CHICAGO, Ill. -- Senior safety Ben Butler and senior wide receiver Jereme Ombogo landed on the Week 1 D3football.com National Team of the Week late Monday evening thanks to their standout performances in a season-opening win over Ripon. This marks the first time in program history that North Park Football has seen more than one player receive the national honor in the same week.
Ombogo totaled 198 receiving yards in his first game of 2025 on just six catches. Three of those six receptions wen for touchdowns, including a 98-yard connection where Omobogo was off to the races. He added a 30-yard punt return and rushed for 20 yards on just a pair of carries.
Butler, a preseason All-American safety, recorded a tackle for loss and recovered a fumble against the Red Hawks. He had four tackles, three of them solo stops, then added an interception, which he returned for 56 yards. He also was credited with a pair of pass breakups to contribute to the NPU defense in a major way.
The Vikings (1-0) have a bye week before returning to action on Saturday, September 20, when they travel to Decatur to take on Millikin University (1-0). Kickoff at Frank M. Lindsay Field is set for 6:00 PM CT.
