St. Laurence names baseball field after Coach Bob Fabrizio, North Park alum

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Bob Fabrizio (C '75) received the distinct honor of having his name etched into St. Laurence Baseball history, as the Vikings minted 'Fabrizio Field' in early May.

From the plaque in his honor at Fabrizio Field:

Coach Bob Fabrizio is widely recognized for putting St. Laurence Baseball on the map through his teaching and training skills, particularly his ability to develop young men into great players, outstanding teammates, and even better individuals.

In honor of their coach and his wife, Maureen, former players wish to dedicate this field to them, hoping that every player who steps onto Fabrizio Field will become a better player, teammate, and person.

Bob and his brother, Nick (C '75) played baseball at North Park in the early 70's. Bob totaled 60 hits, 10 doubles, a pair of triples, and scored 37 runs. He registered 187 assists from the field and was credited with 14 sacrifice hits, alongside a career on-base percentage of .287.

Fabrizio also coached the 1991 Elmhurst College Baseball team to a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) North Division championship. Up until 1998, the two-division league named champions following the league's tournament championship. Fabrizio's 24 wins were tied for the fourth-highest win total in the last 34 years of Bluejay Baseball.
