Vikings split home opener with Loras

Five-run seventh gives Vikings a walkoff win

CHICAGO, Ill. – North Park University Softball split a pair of games against the Loras College Duhawks (11-7) in their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings enjoyed a walkoff win in game one, thanks to a five-hit, five-run seventh.

Game One's Key Moments:
  • 1st Inning: Loras took an early lead with three runs, including an RBI single by Skorich and a groundout RBI by Steger.
  • 4th Inning: North Park tied the game with three runs, highlighted by a three-RBI double by Lorenz.
  • 6th Inning: Loras scored five runs, with Henning driving in two runs with a single to center field.
  • 7th Inning: North Park staged a dramatic comeback with five runs, including a two-RBI single by designated player Bella Frohwirth and an RBI single from junior shortstop Kayla Lorenz.
What an Inning!

North Park entered the seventh inning trailing Loras, 10-6. Sydney Snyder's single started the rally, followed by consecutive singles from freshman left fielder Kaylie Periera and junior first baseman Salyssa Garcia to load the bases. Junior center fielder Kayla Sapolu's walk brought in the first run, and Tan's single added another as North Park trailed, 10-8. Next, Frohwirth dropped a two-RBI single into right field and tied the game, bringing the dangerous bat of Lorenz to the plate. Lorenz would chop a ball in play up the middle, allowing Tan to come across the plate for a walkoff fielder's choice.

  • Henning: Went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.
  • Franklin: Scored three runs, went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and stole a base.
  • Bosson: Delivered a pinch-hit two-RBI single in the 3rd inning.
