Cougars and Vikings split doubleheader in River Forest

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The North Park Softball team split a doubleheader with the Concordia Chicago Cougars (7-7) on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings took game one, 6-0, before dropping the follow-up game 8-5.

Game One Highlights:

In the top of the first inning, North Park senior second baseman Maddy Tan set the tone with a single to right field, followed by sophomore designated player Bella Frohwirth's walk and junior shortstop Kayla Lorenz's single to left field, loading the bases. Junior third baseman Kathyrn Keehn then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Tan to score the first run of the game.

The third inning saw North Park extend its lead with a series of run-scoring knocks. Keehn singled to shortstop, followed by junior right fielder Sydney Snyder's single to center field. Freshman left fielder Kaylie Pereira then delivered another run-scoring single to right field, driving in Keehn. Junior catcher Katie Patton continued the momentum with a double to right field, bringing home Snyder. Finally, junior first baseman Salyssa Garcia's single to center field drove in two more runs, solidifying North Park's lead.

In the fourth inning, Tan doubled to center field, and Lorenz's single to left field brought her home, adding another run to North Park's six run total.

North Park's junior pitcher Eden Baker delivered an outstanding performance, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 5 batters over her complete-game win, improving her record to 3-2.

Game Two Highlights:

Concordia struck first in the second game, scoring three runs in their trip to the plate.

The Vikings, now trailing 8-3, mounted a significant rally in the sixth inning. With bases loaded, Keehn smacked a sharp double to right center, driving in two runs and narrowing the gap to 8-5. Despite the momentum, the Vikings were unable to capitalize further, leaving two runners stranded.
