Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball drops day one in Sauget

SAUGET, Ill. -- North Park Baseball suffered a pair of losses on day one of their four-game set at Grizzlies Ballpark on Saturday. The Vikings dropped a 2-1 contest to host Webster on a walkoff before coming up short 11-6 against UW-Oshkosh.

In game one against the Gorloks, Webster's Carter Hunt and North Park's Brandon Leidolph went to battle on the mound. Leidolph was unhittable through five innings and only allowed the first hit of the game via a single in the sixth.

North Park got its first and only run of the game in the third inning on a solo shot by senior center fielder Alex DiVito, who cleared the right field wall for his first homer of 2025.

Leidolph was in a groove through his seven innings of shutout work, punching out eight hitters and allowing just that hit in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, in the ninth inning, a single and double to put runners on the corners allowed Webster's McBridge to strike a two-run, walkoff single into left field.

In game two against the Titans, both teams scored in the second inning. North Park freshman third baseman Taylor Joseph delivered an RBI single, plating junior second baseman Rylan Kawakami. The Titans responded in their half of the second with an RBI groundout. However, the Titans rallied in a six-run fourth and two-run fifth to establish a 9-1 lead.

The Vikings got three runs back in the seventh thanks to an RBI double for junior right fielder Joe Perona and DiVito's second homer of the game - a two-run no doubter to right. An eighth-inning double for DiVito and successful squeeze bunt for sophomore first baseman Reyn Matsuzaki marked the end of the scoring for NPU, falling to the Titans 11-6.

Kawakami paced the NPU offense with a 4-for-5 game two while Perona, DiVito, and Joseph all had extra-base hits.
