CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park Football's DJ Johnson saw his weekly honors elevated from College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Co-Defensive Player of the Week to a D3football.com National Team of the Week recipient on Tuesday morning. Johnson was the lone player from the CCIW to appear on the national honor roll.
In the Vikings' 14-10 win over Carthage last Saturday, Johnson returned an interception 58 yards for a Vikings touchdown near the start of the second quarter that gave North Park a 7-3 lead over the Firebirds. Â
After Johnson's pick-6, the defense only allowed one touchdown the rest of the game as well as their second-lowest opponent point total all season. Johnson ended with five total tackles, two pass breakups, and a quarterback hurry. He leads the Vikings with 57 tackles and 37 solos.
Johnson's National Team of the Week honors represent the fifth time this season that the Vikings have secured a spot.
