Chicago, Il., -- It's been nearly a week since North Park Men's Basketball tough 80-67 loss to #7 UW La Crosse, but the Vikings (2-1, 0-0) look to press forward this week against the Anderson University Ravens (1-3, 0-0), making the trip to Anderson, Indiana.
There were many positives to take away from the Vikings' last match up against La Crosse that they can build on heading into tomorrow's game, like forcing 14 turnovers, outscoring the Eagles in the paint, second-chance points, and fast break points. Senior guard William Bates scored a team high 19 points on 8-12 shooting, getting to his spots early to get into a rhythm, while fellow senior Kolden Vanlandingham's was on triple double watch as he poured in 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists, getting everyone involved and pushing the pace for the Vikings. However, the Vikings struggled from the field and from the free throw line overall, and got into foul trouble in both halves as a unit, allowing the Eagles to shoot 35 free throws in total. Something head coach Edwind McGhee will be cognizant of is trying to pull away in the rebounding, assists, and turnover battle since those categories have proven crucial to North Park's success so far this season and in the past. La Crosse and North Park were tied across all three categories last week, forcing free throws and three point shooting to be a big deciding factor in the outcome of the game.
For the Ravens, their start to the season hasn't been ideal, dropping three of their first four with two of those losses coming at home. As a team they are averaging 13.3 turnovers a game, something to keep an eye on with the Vikings' aggressive style of defense, and 7 less rebounds per game than their opponents another area where North Park can look to take advantage. Anderson has given up 84 points per game but have forced teams into 15 turnovers per game, showing that they can get after it defensively. Leading the Ravens is Elijah Mattingly, who is averaging 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game, scoring 20 points in two of their four games. He is accompanied by two 10 point per game scorers in Nolan Swan and Kenney Troutman, with Swan leading all Ravens with 1.5 steals per game this season. This will be Anderson University's third home game this season and the Ravens will be hungry to get their first win at their place, as the Vikings look to get back on track and move to 3-1.
Tip off between North Park University and Anderson University is at 4pm CT on Saturday, November 22nd.
